Shop at Dollar Tree – Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1½ Cups Warm Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 1 Package Active Dry Yeast
  • 4½ Cups of All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ Cup Unsalted Butter, Melted
  • Vegetable Oil (for Bowl)
  • 10 Cups Water
  • ½ Cup Baking Soda
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Chocolate Chips
  • 2 Medium-Sized Mixing Bowls
  • Electric Mixer
  • Plastic Wrap
  • 2 Baking Sheets
  • Parchment Paper
  • Large Saucepan
  • Knife

Easy Step-by-Step Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450º.
  2. Combine warm water, sugar, salt, and yeast in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Let the mixture sit for five minutes or until it begins to foam or bubble.
  3. While using an electric mixer on the lowest speed, slowly add in flour and butter.
  4. Mix on medium speed until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl (see image #1).
  5. Place the dough in a separate bowl coated in vegetable oil. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature for one hour or until the dough has doubled in size (see image #2).
  6. While waiting for the dough to rise, line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a boil in a large saucepan.
  8. Divide the risen dough into eight equal pieces and roll each piece into a rope, about 20 inches long. Twist the rope together or weave into a traditional pretzel shape (see image #3).
  9. Place each pretzel, one by one, into the boiling water for 20 seconds, then remove and place onto the parchment lined sheet pan (see image #4).
  10. Press chocolate chips into the pretzel, dispersing evenly.
  11. Bake until dark golden brown, about 12 minutes. Allow the pretzels to cool for five minutes.
  12. Dust the pretzels with powdered sugar and serve warm.
