Celebrate Father’s Day with this simple, hearty recipe for a one-pot chili and cornbread meal! Here's one delicious way to dad's heart that will feed a crowd with minimal fuss.

Shop at Dollar Tree – Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1 - 15-oz. Can Chili
  • 2 - 15-oz. Cans Beans, Drained and Rinsed (we used black beans)
  • 1 - 14.5-oz. Can Diced Tomatoes (we used roasted garlic)
  • 1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Teaspoon Chili Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 - 12.5-oz. Boxed Cornbread Mix (plus ingredients to make)
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • 10" Cast Iron Skillet (or any oven-safe skillet — see “Tips” if you don’t have one)
  • Cooking Oil

Easy Step-By-Step Directions:

  1. Add cooking oil to the skillet and heat on medium-high. Add chili, beans, tomatoes, and spices to the warm skillet. Cook on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until liquid is reduced and the chili is thickened, about 30 minutes. Adjust spices and salt to taste.
  2. Spread shredded cheddar cheese evenly across the top of the chili while in the skillet.
  3. Mix cornbread batter in a mixing bowl according to the package directions and spread the mixture on top of the chili. Bake the skillet mixture following the cornbread package directions until the top is lightly browned.


  • If you don’t have a skillet that can move from stovetop to oven, transfer the filling to a lightly greased baking pan before adding the cheese and cornbread batter.
  • For a meatier chili, replace one can of beans with one pound of ground beef. Brown the meat in the skillet and drain the fat before adding the rest of the ingredients.
